In 1495, Maximilian met with the German nobles at the Diet of Worms (a general assembly of the estates of the Holy Roman Empire held at Worms, a small town on the Rhine River in what is now Germany), asking their military and financial support for his wars against the French and the Ottoman Turks, in return for a number of concessions.
